Michael Lang
Michael Lang is Co-Founder and Chairman of Revelytix, Inc., a semantic technology company that has developed an ontology based collaboration framework for vocabulary development and community knowledge management. Prior to founding Revelytix, Mr. Lang co-counded MetaMatrix, an Enterprise Information Integration company that was sold to Red Hat in 2007. Earlier on, Mr. Lang was President of NSSI, a CAD software company purchased by Network Imaging. Prior to NSSI he worked in the financial information industry for Bridge Information Systems and Reuters Information Systems, where he ran strategy for financial information and analytic products. He is a noted consultant in the areas of data integration, and semantic technologies. He as assisted in various areas of product strategy for such companies as BEA Systems. He is currently Deputy CTO for Vitria, a BPM and exception management software company. Mr. Lang is a graduate of Washington College, with a BS in Chemistry.

Since graduating from The University Maryland-College Park with a Bachelors Science in Mathematics, Michael has been a full time employee of Revelytix. Working under the tutelage of his father, Revelytix Co-founder, Michael Lang, Sr., Mike Jr. has had the benefit of direction from a proven thought leader in areas of enterprise information integration and data management. He has applied this knowledge to formulate his own unique perspectives and methodologies for the collaborative development of ontologies, knowledgebases and semantically enabled applications. Since joining the company as Semantic Solutions Specialist, his responsibilities have included product management, technical support, presales consulting and promotional marketing.
In July of 2008 Mike was promoted to Lead Ontologist. While continuing his responsibilities as Product Manager, he is now actively consulting and supporting customer engagements. He is now recognized as a semantic technology expert by his industry peers. In addition to his expertise in semantics, he also has a comprehensive understanding of web-based software architecture. He is a frequent speaker on the technology circuit, most recently presenting at the International Symposium of Collaborative Technologies and Systems and to NYC Semantic Technology Meet Up.

The next big thing for the data management community is to give up central control and planning in order to gain scalability and robustness.
Over the years there have been a lot of persistent myths about the Semantic Web. Really, I can’t blame people too much. The ‘new’ Web has a pretty cryptic name, it’s been a long time coming, and the benefits of this 3rd generation Web infrastructure take some pretty serious geek-cred to really understand. But despite all these good reasons for regular folk to be confused about the Semantic Web, it’s the people who should know better and still spread mis-truths that really get me frustrated!
